3rd National Seed Council Meeting: Strengthening Malaysia’s Local Seed Industry for Food Security

Crop Power Sdn Bhd proudly participated in the 3rd National Seed Council Meeting, a strategic industry gathering focused on strengthening Malaysia's seed sector, enhancing national food security, and reducing dependence on imported seeds.

Aligned with the national aspiration to achieve a 30% reduction in seed imports by 2040, the meeting highlighted the critical role of local innovation, research, breeding, and seed production in building a resilient agricultural ecosystem.

For many years, Malaysia has relied heavily on imported seeds. Strengthening the local seed industry is a key step towards achieving food sovereignty, improving agricultural sustainability, and securing the nation's long-term food supply.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the formation of the Jawatankuasa Teknikal Benih (Seed Technical Committee), which will serve as an important regulatory and technical platform for the industry.

The committee will focus on:

Developing and strengthening national seed standards
Enhancing seed quality assurance systems
Supporting local seed breeding and innovation
Improving competitiveness of Malaysian seeds in domestic and export markets
Facilitating industry collaboration between government agencies, research institutions, and seed companies

As one of Malaysia's leading seed companies, Crop Power fully supports the establishment of the Seed Technical Committee and the broader initiatives under the national seed development agenda.

We believe that a strong local seed industry is fundamental to:

National food security
Sustainable agriculture development
Reduced dependency on imported seeds
Increased competitiveness of Malaysian agriculture
Better access to quality seeds for local farmers
Crop Power remains committed to working closely with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and the Inisiatif Hab Benih to transform national seed ambitions into meaningful action for the benefit of Malaysian farmers and future generations.

Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable, and self-reliant seed industry for Malaysia.
